about

The spotlight in club music is always moving from one sound to the next, and while a trend in syncopated afro-infused rhythms over the last few years has seen new styles like Hard Drum emerge, UK Funky has once more been brought to the forefront of the dance consciousness as its infectious grooves and memorable melodies draw new blood to the sound, including at one time a young DJ Stolen.

DJ Stolen’s illustrious DJ career has seen him grace the dance floors of Fabric to the stages of Boomtown festival, as well as holding shows on renowned radio stations like Rinse.Fm, 1020, Noods and more - the Bristolian badboy has always been one to champion new music and is proud to present ‘The Stolen Collection’, a bespoke compilation celebrating the revival of UK Funky, bringing together a pack of club-ready percussive smashers that showcase a new wave of UK Funky producer alongside some of the sound’s pioneering artists.

The compilation kicks off with scene stalwart DJ MA1’s ‘Octave’, a dub infused steppa fit for Stolen’s hometown of Bristol. Oetker’s ‘Dates in Tunisia’ is a mellow summertime groover complete with a catchy hook - UK Funky is known for its earworm melodies, and ‘Caliente’ by Fearz is no exception with its epic flute line, while Ali McK & IYZ bring a snare-laden adrenaline rush in the propulsive ‘1, 2, 3, 4’. Fonzo’s ‘Echo Falls’ eschews 4x4 in favour of a broken step while retaining the feel of Funky with its snarling synths and a menacing atmosphere. Doctor Nick’s ‘Mind’ is an atmospheric eyes-down roller, and legend in the game L.R. Groove rounds off the release with the supreme weight of ‘Jah’.

With UK Funky soundtracking parties all over the globe, ‘The Stolen Collection’ is essential ammo for any DJ looking to ignite the dancefloor, as well as crucial listening for all club music fans worldwide.
